TxDOT plans May 21 hearing on Texas 99 frontage roads
The Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled a Tuesday, May 21, hearing on the proposed addition of southbound frontage roads to Texas 99.
The meeting will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Cinco Ranch Junior High School, 23420 Cinco Ranch Blvd. and will focus on the proposed frontage roads from Cinco Ranch Boulevard to Westheimer Parkway and from Fry Road to FM 1093. The projects also will involve ramp modifications.
No formal presentation will be made. With the open-house format, the public may come and go at its convenience, and staff will be available to answer questions. Comments must be received on or before June 5, 2019, to be a part of the official meeting record. Written comments may also be submitted either in person or by mail to the TxDOT District Office, Director of Project Development, P.O. Box 1386, Houston, TX 77251; or submitted electronically at HOU-PIOWebMail@txdot.gov or at the project website at https://tinyurl.com/beu6uz6.
TxDOT plans to seek bids later this year for the projects. The current project estimate is $22.5 million,” said Deidrea George, TxDOT public information officer. The travel lanes could be 12- or 14-feet-wide, partly within existing TxDOT right of way. The project also includes minor adjustments at the interchanges, without ramp reversals.
Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said the county hired engineering firms to design the frontage roads to state standards. While the frontage roads are funded 100 percent by Fort Bend County, TxDOT is seeking bids for the work. Initially, the frontage roads were scheduled to be let in March 2019. George said the let date has been pushed back to December.
The additional southbound frontage roads will provide traffic congestion relief for SH 99 as well as for Fry Road, Westheimer Parkway and Cinco Ranch Boulevard, according to Meyers.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT, according to the legal notice.
