June 3, 2019

KAILUA, Hawaii (AP) — The Latest on body being found on Kailua Beach (all times local):

9:30 a.m. Monday

The Army says a body found at Oahu’s Kailua Bay is that of a soldier who went missing late last week.

The 25th Infantry Division said in a news release Monday it won’t disclose further information until the soldier’s family has been notified.

Officials say witnesses reported the man and two women went into the ocean around 5:30 p.m. Friday and were seen in distress.

A couple on surfboards rescued the women about 40 yards offshore, but the man was lost beneath the waves.

Officials say the search Saturday morning was interrupted when at least one shark was observed. The search resumed Saturday afternoon.
