Region’s Unemployment Unchanged In July

SCRANTON — Unemployment was unchanged in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton metro area last month. July’s unemployment for the region that includes Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wyoming counties held at 4.7 percent, according to preliminary numbers released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor and Industry. The regional labor force grew by 2,400 workers to 280,000, nearly all of whom found work, according to the seasonally adjusted data. State unemployment dropped one-tenth of a point to 4.2 percent. The national rate fell one-tenth of a point to 3.9 percent. — JON O’CONNELL
