San Jose Earthquakes ease past Chicago Fire 5-1
SANTA CLARA, California (AP) — Portuguese forward Yannick Djalo scored one goal and had a hand in three others to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer on Wednesday.
The Earthquakes took a 1-0 lead just before the break when Shea Salinas ran down a long ball from Djalo along the left sideline, worked his way into the box and squeezed a shot between two defenders.
In the second half, Djalo chipped a shot over goalkeeper Sean Johnson in the 79th minute, and his pass to Chris Wondolowski started Cordell Cato’s acrobatic finish in the 84th.
Atiba Harris and Wondolowski also scored for the Quakes.
Chicago’s Grant Ward fired a shot off of Matt Watson’s pass to make it 3-1 in the 75th minute.
