MU soccer’s Roberts gets C-USA honors

November 7, 2018

HUNTINGTON — Marshall University men’s soccer player Jamil Roberts was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.

Roberts is a sophomore from Langport, England, who totaled eight points in two Thundering Herd victories.

He scored one goal and assisted on another score in a 2-1 conference win at South Carolina, then netted two goals and recorded an assist at home in a 5-1 defeat of Florida Atlantic.

“Jamil had an excellent week,” Marshall head coach Chris Grassie said in a Herd-Zone.com release. “He’s had some ups and downs this season, but when he’s in the right mind frame, which is a positive one, he can be an exciting player to watch. He always works hard and runs for the team, so it’s nice to see him on the end of passes this week.”

His performance helped Marshall secure the No. 5 seed in the C-USA tournament that begins Wednesday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Marshall plays No. 4 FIU at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
