Highway Patrol identified victims in fatal traffic crash
PINK HILL, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the two people killed when their car collided with a dump truck.
Troopers told local media that 29-year-old Marie Holt and her 7-year-old son, Caleb, died in Monday’s crash when the dump truck crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 258 and hit Holt’s 2002 Honda Accord head-on.
Patrol Sgt. Scott Hemby said a bystander tried to give the child CPR, but both Holt and her son died at the scene. Hemby said the driver of the dump truck, identified as 33-year-old Bradley Hardy of Nashville, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The patrol has charged Hardy with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Troopers are trying to determine why the dump truck crossed the center line.
