Utah Police Seek Missing Toddler
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Rescue teams temporarily called off a search for a toddler who disappeared after being left in his father’s car.
As night fell Friday, officials said it was increasingly unlikely the boy would be found alive as temperatures approached freezing in the area, with an elevation of about 8,000 feet. Rescuers expected to resume the search Saturday.
Paul Wayment left his 2-year-old son Gage asleep as he went hunting Thursday morning near Coalville, about 25 miles east of Salt Lake City, said Summit County Dispatcher Connie Fowers.
At about 1 p.m., she said, the sheriff’s office got a call saying the boy was missing. The child was wearing blue pajamas and was not wearing shoes.
Search and rescue workers and dogs from Summit, Wasatch and Salt Lake counties were on the scene Friday, along with a helicopter equipped with infrared search capabilities.
Fowers said it was unclear whether the boy might have been abducted.
``It’s too early to tell,″ she said.
