Take personal approach to locking doors

August 7, 2018

The wonders of modern technology have created another way to add simplicity to our lives.

In this case, it’s probably best to continue doing things the old-fashioned way.

There is a current television commercial for a security company which extols the virtues of a system which allows people to lock the doors of their homes via voice command.

It’s a novel approach, but it has apparent flaws. While the system is almost certain to work, the only way to ensure its effectiveness is to follow the voice command with a walk around the house to make certain the locks took hold. While you’re at it, you should make sure your car doors are locked, too.

Break-ins are a serious issue here and everywhere else. That’s why the Kankakee County sheriff’s police has used social media to promote its 9 p.m. lock the doors routine for constituents.

So, don’t leave the job to the fictional Alexa. Apply the do-it-yourself approach when it comes to locked doors. If you don’t and get robbed, don’t blame Alexa. The fault lies with you.
