Milford’s MLK tribute to feature Jahana Hayes
MILFORD — Newly elected Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., will be the keynote speaker at this year’s tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday.
The annual observance of Reflections: A Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is slated for 4 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Milford City Hall auditorium, 110 River St.
This is the 33rd year that the Milford Chapter of The Links Incorporated, a women’s service organization, has sponsored the event.
Hayes, who was elected to represent the Fifth District of Connecticut in November, making her the first African-American woman to ever represent the state of Connecticut in Congress, has been recognized as a state and national Teacher of the Year.
Other invited program participants include Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn.; state Sen. James Maroney and Milford’s Mayor Benjamin Blake.
Program participants will feature youth and youth groups, including Foran High School’s Advanced Vocal Ensemble, Bridgeport Boys Choir and soloist Ylé Blackburn.
A reception will immediately follow the program in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, 28 North St. The program is open and free to the public.
