Lancaster Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile

LANCASTER -- Mosquitoes collected in Lancaster have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to local health officials.

The regional board of health is warning residents to avoid being outside at dawn and dusk, which are peak hours for mosquito activity, and to wear insect repellent while spending time outdoors.

Pesticide spraying was conducted in southern Lancaster this week.

West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes were also collected in Clinton and Berlin.

Read to a therapy pet Saturday

FITCHBURG -- TheraPAWS Therapy Pet’s will offer a free program on Saturday, from 10:30-11:45 a.m., at the Public Library at 610 Main St.

This program is sponsored by Be PAWSitive Therapy Pets and Community Education and the Fitchburg Youth Library and is designed for children of all ages.

Children who read to a therapy pet increase their comprehension and fluency, and are more relaxed readers.
