1,061-Pound Pumpkin Wins Contest

CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) _ Charlie Brown would be impressed.

A 1,061-pound monster pumpkin stole the show at the World Pumpkin Conference competition here Saturday, winning $50,000 for growers Nathan and Paula Zehr. Competition officials said it’s the world’s largest pumpkin.

It’s the second consecutive year the Zehrs have won. This time, they enlisted the help of 12 people to drag ``The Great Can Do″ pumpkin to the weigh-in site near Buffalo.

The Zehrs, from Watson, beat out the second-place pumpkin by almost 200 pounds.

Spectators will soon be able to get a glimpse of the giant pumpkin during a national tour.
