Norfolk Transfer Station giving away organic compost

October 11, 2018

NORFOLK - Do you need some compost? If so, the City of Norfolk Transfer Station is giving it away for free.

Solid Waste Supervisor Rob Mercer says they bought a composter after state law prohibited mixing grass clippings and leaves with household trash headed to the landfill from April 1st through November 30th of each year.

Mercer says the compost is great for gardens, sandy soils, and establishing a new lawn.

“I probably have two years worth of compost, there are a few small sticks in it, but other than that it’s a wonderful product. You can load compost yourself Monday through Friday 7:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. or have the Transfer Station load it for you for $10 Monday through Friday 8 A.M. to 3 P.M.”

The Transfer Station is located at 600 East Monroe Avenue. For more information call (402) 844-2231.
