Spanish mayor who survived Tunis attack calls for measures

March 21, 2015

MADRID (AP) — A Spanish mayor who survived this week’s terror attack in Tunisia has urged world leaders to be vigilant and take steps to stop future attacks.

Josep Cusido, the mayor of Vallmoll, a village 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Barcelona, says the Tunisian attack he saw was motivated by hatred and a desire to cause the maximum damage possible.

He told The Associated Press on Saturday it was necessary to understand the gravity of the problem, “take precautions, control this, because it can happen in a millisecond and in three seconds you can have untold deaths.”

Cusido said he ran up the stairs of the National Bardo Museum in Tunis as bullets ricocheted around his feet and he saw other visitors being mowed down by gunfire.
