Paulette Hindley Tate
Our much loved mother, Paulette Hindley Tate, passed away in the early evening hours on February 12, 2019, after a stroke during an outpatient procedure at the hospital. In her final hours she was surrounded by each of her seven children, their spouses and her grandchildren, which truly was a tender mercy.
Paulette was born and raised in Magrath, Alberta, Canada to Kenneth Robinson and Margaret Ririe Hindley. She was the middle child of three daughters. She loved and cherished her sisters throughout her life. She graduated from Magrath High School and later attended vocational school in Calgary. She worked at Sunset View Elementary School for twenty-eight years, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Paulette was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities on a ward and stake level. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoyed going to the temple weekly. She was tireless in her efforts to teach her children and grandchildren gospel truths. Paulette loved the Savior and put Him at the center of her life. She was humble, compassionate, obedient, kind, loving and very persistent.
Paulette simply adored her husband, Jim Tate, whom she met at an area singles dance in Alberta. Dad had just returned home from his mission and Grandma Tate was describing all the different girls in the room when he asked, “Who is that?” Grandma responded, “You mean the one with the long waist?” Thus, her nickname “Stretch” came to be. They married on April 24, 1965, in the Cardston Temple, a marriage which led to seven children and seventeen grandchildren. Jim passed away on June 1, 1997.
Paulette’s greatest joy was her family. Above all else, she loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren and her beloved sisters. Her favorite traditions included monthly family dinners and annual family reunions. In addition to family, Paulette cherished her friends, her neighborhood bike rides, gardening, licorice ice cream, healthy eating, reading, traveling, laughing and her Canadian heritage.
Paulette is survived by her seven children, their spouses and grandchildren: Danielle (David) Moore, James, Windsor, Bogdan Josh, and Ruslan; Whitnie (Kristi Chapman); Kristen (Keri Thurston); Brad (Kelly) Tate, Quinn, Ansley, Holden, Liam and Truen; Jamis (Dawn) Tate, Ella, Nora, Lola, Golden and Greta; Lindsey Tate; Justin (Julianne) Tate, Rowan, Harper and Rockwell; her siblings, Julee MacArthur, Beryl (David) Holmes, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the LDS meetinghouse 430 South 700 East, Orem, Utah. We are grateful for the Plan of Salvation and know that our matriarch has been received home by a loving Heavenly Father, her husband, her dear father and mother and many other relatives and friends. We will sorely miss our Mother, our Nana, and long for the day when we will once again be reunited.
