Chesapeake clobbers Belpre 67-26

JACKSON, Ohio — Seventh-seeded Chesapeake (13-10) raced to an 18-3 lead on its way to a 67-26 pounding of Belpre in the Ohio Division III, Jackson 2 sectional high school boys basketball tournament semifinals Tuesday at Jackson High School.

The Panthers advance to Saturday’s 6 p.m. sectional title game against No. 2 seed Eastern-Pike, the seventh-ranked team in the state, at Jackson. The Eagles (22-1) defeated 15thseeded Wellston 63-38 earlier Tuesday.

WAYNE 68, POINT PLEASANT 64: Benton Daniels scored 19 points as the Pioneers (5-17) held off the visiting Big Blacks (7-14). Bryan Sansom scored 16 and Nickolas Bryant 14. Hunter Bush paced Point Pleasant with 26 points. Kyelar Morrow scored 17 and Braxton Yates 14.

WINFIELD 57, PARKERSBURG CATHOLIC 44: Zach Simpkins led the Generals with 27 points and Bryant Moore scored 12 in a victory over the Crusaders. Cade Ullman scored 15 and Ty Sturm 13 for Parkersburg Catholic.

BOYD COUNTY 70, FAIRVIEW 63: The defending 16th Region champion Lions (20-10) are headed back to try for two consecutive state tournament appearances after defeating the Eagles on Tuesday. The Lions take on Ashland (14-15) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Anderson Gym for the district title.

PAINTSVILLE 63, SHELDON CLARK 50: Colby Fugate and Nick Keeton recorded double-double games and Paintsville won at home in the Kentucky 57th District tournament. The Tigers (17-6) play in the finals Friday at Tiger Arena.

Fugate had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Keeton had 12 points and 11 rebounds Brady Dingess led the Tigers with 19 points.

Trey James scored 20 and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cardinals (10-19).

LEWIS COUNTY 62, GREENUP COUNTY 41: The Lions (19-9) defeated the Musketeers (11-19) in a 63rd District tournament opener in Vanceburg, Kentucky. Lewis County ran its winning streak to nine games and beat Greenup County for the third time this season as Seth Wright scored 22 and Sam O’Keefe 15, including the 1,000th of his career. Brady Nelson paced the Musketeers with 20 points. The Lions play for the district title at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s 7 p.m. featuring Raceland and Russell.

FLOYD CENTRAL 56, LAWRENCE COUNTY 54: The No. 12 seed Jaguars (5-24) stunned the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (22-8) in the semifinals of the 58th District tournament in Louisa, Kentucky. At 7 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence County, Floyd Central will take on the winner from Tuesday’s late semifinal featuring Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg.

IRONTON 77, MINFORD 55: The Fighting Tigers (16-7) jumped to a 17-3 lead and rolled to a victory over the Falcons (8-15) in the Ohio Division III, Jackson 4, sectional tournament at Jackson High School. Charlie Large led Ironton with 22 points. Ethan Wilson scored 13 and Jordan Grizzle and Reid Carrico each added 11. Darius Jordan scored 25 for Minford. The Tigers advance to the championship game at 8:30 p.m. Friday vs. Oak Hill at Jackson.

COVENANT 90, BETH HAVEN CHRISTIAN 79: John Turley scored 27 and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Eagles (16-5) by the Hornets (19-3). Gabe Roberts scored 19, snagged six rebounds and handed out six assists.

Nate Beilstein scored 15 and Mackie Herbert and Braden Roten chipped in 11 each. Donte Adams led Beth Haven Christian with 20 points. Tyler Hobbs scored 19, Caleb Deberry 16 and Jason Frye 12.

JOHNSON CENTRAL 64, PAINTSVILLE 48: Ashlee Belcher (17), Morgan Hopson (14) and Hannah Fitch (13) led the Johnson Central (14-14) scoring in a Kentucky 57th District tournament game at Paintsville, Kentucky. Anna Keeton led Paintsville (20-10) with 21 points.

TRIMBLE 48, SOUTH GALLIA 42: Laikyn Imler scored 16 and and Brianna Orsborne 13 as the Cats (8-11) defeated the Rebels (6-16) in a makeup game in Mercerville, Ohio.

Kiley Stapleton paced South Gallia with 14 points.

OVC 52, NORTH PLEASANTS CHRISTIAN 47: Emily Childers scored 18 as Ohio Valley Christian (11-11) concluded its season with a triumph over the Eagles in St. Marys, West Virginia. Leticia Araujo scored 15 and Chloe Payne 10. Gabbie Howell led North Pleasants Christian with 13 points. Sarah Bowie chipped in 11 and Tiffany Doyle 10.

NITRO 72, POINT PLEASANT 24: Baylee Goins scored 26, including scoring her 1,000th career point, in leading Nitro to a 72-24 home victory over the Big Blacks in the Class AA, Region IV, Section 1 tournament.

Haley Carroll added 21 points, for No. 3 seed Nitro (17-6), which advances to play at No. 2 seed Wayne on Wednesday. Allison Henderson scored 10 for Point Pleasant.

SISSONVILLE 55, POCA 30: The Indians held the Dots to just nine first-half points in the home win in the Class AA, Region IV, Section 1 tournament. Laila Arthur scored 32 for No. 4 seed Sissonville (19-4) which plays at No. 1 seed Winfield on Wednesday.
