Couple arrested for tampering with government records

November 17, 2018

The Brownsville Police Department arrested a woman and her boyfriend Thursday on accusations of using fake insurance cards to obtain temporary license plates.

Brownsville Police Department Spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez said authorities arrested Diana C. Garza and charged her with 10 counts of tampering with a government record while her boyfriend, Francisco Montes, is charged with six counts of tampering with a government record.

Gonzalez said police accuse the couple of going to the Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office and using fictitious insurance cards to obtain temporary license plates.

Garza is charged with more counts than Montes because she is accused of presenting the fake insurance cards more times, Gonzalez said.

Garza was arraigned Thursday and bailed out of jail on $50,000 in bonds. Montes was also arraigned Thursday and bailed out of jail on $30,000 in bonds, according to jail records.
