POLICE SHOOTING-PARKING LOT
SOUTH BEND — Authorities say a police officer shot and wounded a young man who allegedly pointed a gun at another officer in northern Indiana. Lt. Alex Arendt of the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit says two plain-clothes South Bend Police Department officers spotted a vehicle driving erratically Monday and followed it into the parking lot of a lounge. — FATAL FALL-APARTMENT BALCONY: Authorities say the death of a 19-year-old Purdue University student who fell from the balcony of an apartment on the top floor of a 10-story complex near campus has been ruled a suicide.
— NEW FEDERAL JUDGE: Indiana’s newest federal judge has taken his oath of office. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana says James R. Sweeney II today took his oath of office on Monday.
— WEST NILE-INDIANA: The Marion County Public Health Department is reporting the first death from West Nile virus since 2012 for the county including Indianapolis.
