PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) _ Reggie Welch scored a game-high 32 points to lead Coppin State to a 85-79 victory Monday over Maryland-Eastern Shore in a Mid-East Athletic Conference game.

The Eagles (6-7, 6-2 MEAC) led most of the way and were ahead, 41-35, at the half.

But the Hawks (5-8, 1-4 MEAC) would not wither. With three minutes to go, the Hawks were down only one point, 68-67.

Coppin ripped off four consecutive points before the Hawks scored again and put the game away.

Three other Coppin players scored in double figures. Fred Warrick got 19, followed by Antoine Brockington with 13 and Kareem Lewus with 11.

William Wright led UMES with 22 points. Marcus Cheek got 21 points and Joel Hoover had 12. Wright also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
