Man charged after drunkenly shooting another man in foot at Canton bowling alley, authorities say

CANTON, Ohio -- A 23-year-old man is accused of shooting another man in the foot while drunk at a bowling alley, authorities say.

The shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. Friday at Strike Zone bowling alley on Whipple Avenue near Aurora Street NW, according to a news release from Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier.

The 24-year-old was found with the gunshot wound and taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the release says.

Spencer Andrew Webler-Norman, 23, of Canton, faces charges of negligent assault, tampering with evidence, illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment, using weapons while intoxicated and discharging of a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, the release says.

Investigators say the man had a valid concealed carry license and was trying to adjust the holster when the gun fired, the release says. The men were acquaintances and were at the bowling alley together, the release says.

Authorities found Webler-Norman under the influence at the time of the incident, the release says. He stayed on scene and was later arrested.

Perry Township Police and Canton Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The shooting is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 330-430-3800.
