Sheriff unveils officers’ new fitness center
Allen County Sheriff David Gladieux today formally unveiled a 6,600-square-foot training and fitness center where it’s hoped the department’s nearly 340 employees will stay fit.
The facility with state of the art audio and video installed by Sweetwater Sound, new locker rooms and bathrooms, flooring and painting donated by Rosema Corporation and professional fitness equipment donated by Summit Brands helped keep costs down, Gladieux said.
Total cost of the fitness center was estimated to be around 1 million without outside financial help, the sheriff said.
Sheriff’s deputies and other employees have been using the facility at 7117 Venture Lane on the city’s north side since January, Gladieux said. The building is part of a complex that was the Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Another building on the property is being retrofitted to become the new Allen County Work Release Center expected to open in August, said Nelson Peters, Allen County commissioners’ president, who attended the opening.
