Richard Myrus named US attorney for Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island has a new top federal prosecutor.
The U.S. Justice Department announced Wednesday that Richard Myrus has been named acting U.S. attorney for the District of Rhode Island effective immediately.
Myrus was previously first assistant U.S. attorney for the district.
Myrus, who has degrees from Columbia University, UC-San Diego, and a law degree from Fordham University, is a former navy helicopter pilot. In 2007 was appointed as a federal prosecutor, served in both the civil and criminal divisions. He was named chief of the Civil Division in 2014 and first assistant attorney in January 2018.
He succeeds Stephen Dambruch who stepped down to take a position as chief of the criminal division in the in the state attorney general’s office.
