R-ACT Theatre Productions in Rochester will host open auditions for its annual Holiday Radio Show, “A Christmas Carol,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 14 and 15 in the lounge of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 393 Adams St., Rochester.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Head shots and resumes are appreciated, but not required. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at The Merrick Free Art Gallery, New Brighton.

Laughlin Children’s Center, 454 Frederick Ave., Sewickley, will offer free early reading screenings from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 8 for children in kindergarten through second grade at the center.

The Predictive Assessment of Reading screening takes 30 minutes and enables parents to know in advance if their child needs to take the necessary steps to develop targeted reading skills. After the screening, a clinician will sit down with parents to interpret the results of the assessment and children will receive a print-out with at-home suggestions for improving areas of concern.
