PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Lemont Daniels and Ray Ross hit two free throws apiece in the final 23 seconds as Portland came from behind to defeat Gonzaga 74-71 Saturday and snap a five-game Bulldogs’ winning streak.

The victory boosted Portland (17-6, 8-4) into a second-place tie with St. Mary’s in the West Coast Conference.

Canaan Chatman had 16 points to lead four Pilots in double figures.

Jon Kinloch topped all scorers with 18 points for Gonzaga (16-8, 5-7). Kyle Dixon added 15 and John Rillie 14.

Gonzaga led 61-52 with 9:33 left in the game when Portland took its first lead since the opening tip, 68-67, on a pair of free throws by Curt Ranta with 2:54 left in the game.

Dixon’s two free throws pushed Gonzaga ahead 71-68 with 53 seconds left, but freshman Dionn Holton closed the gap to 71-70 with 37 seconds showing.

Ross then made a midcourt steal on a Portland full-court trapping defense and Daniels followed with two free throws to give the Pilots a 72-71 lead with 23 seconds left.

Daniels then made a tip-steal of a Dixon drive to put Ross at the line for a pair with three seconds remaining.

After a Gonzaga timeout, Rillie made a desperation toss from 12 feet past the midcourt line, but it bounced off the front rim at the buzzer.

It was Portland’s 11th consecutive home court win and their best overall record since the 1981-82 season.
