Police say Czech hospital nurse suspected of 6 murders
PRAGUE (AP) — Czech police say they suspect a former hospital nurse of murdering six patients.
Spokeswoman Veronika Hysplerova says police believe the nurse committed the murders in a hospital in the town of Rumburk in northern Czech Republic by injecting large doses of potassium. The state prosecution now has to decide whether the evidence is sufficient for the woman to stand trial.
Police began investigating last year when a doctor reported a suspicious death of a 70-year old female patient after he discovered excessive potassium in her blood.
Hysplerova said Friday police investigated more suspicious deaths there before concluding that the suspect is responsible for six of them.
The nurse, who is in custody, faces up to life in prison if convicted. Police have not suggested a motive.
