Test driver drives vehicle into Red Tag Motors dealership in Sycamore

December 19, 2018

SYCAMORE – A car drove about three feet into the back of a local dealership on Wednesday, according to Sycamore police.

A Chevrolet Malibu, which had dealer plates on it and a sticker in the window, jumped the parking standard about 1 p.m. Wednesday in the back of main building at Red Tag Motors, 1925 DeKalb Ave.

Sycamore Police Cmdr. Steve Cook said a 70-year-old Sycamore man was test driving the vehicle when his foot accidentally slipped from the brake pedal and hit the gas. He said there were no injuries that resulted from the incident.

“Nobody inside was close enough to be struck by anything, and the guy in the car was fine,” Cook said.

Assistant Fire Chief Todd Turner said there was significant structural damage from the incident. He said fire officials cut power to the building and that city building department officials determined the structure to the building is still sound.

“Obviously repairs need ot be made, but the building isn’t going to fall down,” Turner said.
