Marketing campaign urges responsible social media tagging

September 20, 2018

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A marketing campaign for the Jackson Hole area in Wyoming is asking visitors to minimize their environmental impact to “Keep Jackson Wild.”

The campaign also urges residents and visitors to exclude geotags from social media images so followers don’t trample on the area’s hidden gems

In June, city and Teton County elected officials asked that this year’s tourism campaign focus on the stewardship of natural resources. County commission chairman Mark Newcomb suggested reminders that visitors can have impacts, from garbage to traffic congestion and effects on wildlife.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports Dustin Black with Colle McVoy marketing said geotagging images can lead to people ruining destinations.

The marketing plan includes handing out reusable bags at the airport and selling T-shirts to further spread the “Stay Wild” message.
