NEW YORK (AP) — Rookie Victor Reyes hit his first major league home run, doubled twice and singled, leading the Detroit Tigers over the New York Yankees 11-7 on Sunday. The Yankees began the day 7 1/2 games behind Boston in the AL East and finished 3-4 on their home stand against Detroit and the Chicago White Sox, both far below- .500 teams. Yankees manager Aaron Boone served a one-game suspension for nicking an umpire with his cap during an animated argument Friday night.
CHICAGO (AP) — James Shields threw six scoreless innings, Tim Anderson and Daniel Palka homered and the Chicago White Sox beat the major league-leading Boston Red Sox 8-0 to split their four-game series. Boston had won four of its last five. The Red Sox maintained a 7½ -game lead in the AL East over the New York Yankees.

John Isner (IHZ’-nur) used a booming serve to reach the quarterfinals by beating Milos Raonic (MEE’-lohsh ROW’-nihch) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Serena Williams is heading to the quarterfinals by beating Kaia Kanepi (KY’-uh kuh-NEP’-ee) 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nick Brossette ran for 125 yards with two touchdowns, grad transfer quarterback Joe Burrow won his first college start and No. 25 LSU made an opening statement with a 33-17 victory over No. 8 Miami on Sunday night. Once the game started, the Hurricanes never really backed the bravado they showed in a feisty exchange of words and some shoving between the teams during warmups about 75 minutes before kickoff. Miami has lost four games in a row since a 10-0 start last season.
NORTON, Mass. (AP) — Abraham Ancer of Mexico has a one-shot lead headed into the Labor Day finish of the Dell Technologies Championship at the TPC Boston. He shot a 6-under 65. Ancer, who is ranked 92 in the Fedex standings, could get into the top 70 with a win and could make it to the Tour Championship. Ten players are within four shots of the lead including major champions Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. Tiger Woods is six shots behind.
