No. 11 Penn St. 91, Minnesota 73

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) _ Maren Walseth scored 21 points and Lisa Shepherd added 20 as No. 11 Penn State beat Minnesota 91-73 on Thursday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Penn State (9-3) opened the second half with an 18-6 run, hitting its first seven field goals and taking the lead for good on Shepherd’s 3-pointer with 17:29 left. The Lady Lions used a 13-0 run to take a 72-58 lead with 7:49 left.

Walseth and Shepherd dominated the second half after scoring just two points each in the first half. Rashana Barnes finished with 14 points, and Courtney Upshaw had 10 rebounds.

Kim Prince and Tanisha Gilbert each scored 19 points for Minnesota (7-4), and Lindsay Whalen had 17.

The Golden Gophers closed the first half with a 12-4 run to take a 45-38 lead,
