Sabercats fall in NCCAA national championship
The Maranatha Baptist University women’s volleyball team fell short in its quest for a fourth consecutive national title.
Maranatha was bested by Bob Jones University 29-27, 25-17, 25-19 as the Sabercats’ 30 match NCCAA postseason win streak dating back to 2015 was snapped in Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday afternoon.
In the extended first set, MBU had four set points but couldn’t convert and the Bruins’ Jordan Anderson recorded consecutive kills as Bob Jones won 29-27.
The Sabercats held an 11-8 advantage in the second set but the Bruins closed with a 9-2 run to win the set.
Maranatha’s Karley Johnson had 11 kills and teammate McKenzie Janke tallied 23 digs.
Maranatha (24-13) won four matches in the tournament, including two in five sets, before taking on Bob Jones (36-5) in the championship.
