Promenade Park open delayed
Rainy weather has forced a delay in the grand opening of Fort Wayne’s Promenade Park.
Initially scheduled for June 21-23, the opening is now scheduled for Aug. 9-11, the city said in a news release Wednesday.
A wet spring made it difficult for construction crews to work on certain aspects of the park, the city said. Areas of the park affected because of the weather are the Parkview Tree Canopy Trail, PNC Playground, Little Creek Bioswale, The Journal Gazette Foundation Dining Gardens and the Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre.
Other projects in the park are on schedule and have not been affected by the weather, according to the city.
The total project cost for the first phase of downtown riverfront development is about 1.25 million of that came from donors who received naming rights for various parts of the venue.
The grand opening will feature a floating band performance, community art projects, lighted boat parade, butterfly release and boat rides.
