Shooting on Barr Street; 1 dead
Medics couldn’t save a person injured by gunfire Sunday afternoon just south of downtown.
The scene around the 2500 block of Barr Street was quiet as authorities investigated the scene : a two-story light blue house with a gaping front door and the area immediately surrounding it.
The shooting happened about 4 p.m.
Although the wounded person was found inside the residence, police believe the shooting happened outside because of shell casings found in an adjacent alley, Fort Wayne police spokesman Michael Joyner said at the scene.
The injured person, a male, was taken from the scene in critical condition but later died, Joyner said. He did not know the person’s age.
A woman and child were also in the home when police arrived, Joyner said. Their relationship to the deceased was unknown as of press time.
The street full of police cars caused passers-by to pause and inquire about the events. Upon hearing there was a shooting, one woman broke down and indicated her relatives lived in the area.
The shooting remains under investigation, and police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
The Allen County coroner will release identification and the cause and manner of death at a later date. If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the 39th homicide in Allen County this year.
