Police on Thursday charged a Hanover Twp. man with raping an 18-year-old woman at his home in May.
Keith D. Eichler, 19, forced himself on the woman in the early morning hours of May 13 after a night of drinking, according to an affidavit filed by Hanover Twp. police.
According to the affidavit:
The woman went to the Hanover Twp. police station on July 11 to report she had been raped.
She told police she went to Eichler’s house on the night of May 12 after a friend, who was at the house, invited her to come over. There were three men at the home when she got there, she said: her friend, Eichler and another man. She said she knew who Eichler and the other man were, but had never socialized with them before.
The group drank together in the kitchen, the woman said.
She said at about 4 a.m., after the other two men fell asleep, she and Eichler were playing with his dogs at the bottom of the stairs.
The woman said she and Eichler went upstairs so she could play with a cat who was kept separated from the dogs. Once upstairs, Eichler began walking toward her, forcing her to back up into his bedroom, where she fell backward onto the bed, she said.
Eichler got on top of her and sexually assaulted her, even though she repeatedly told him “no” and attempted to push him away, the woman said.
Police interviewed the other two men who were at the house. The men said they and Eichler drank beer and Jagermeister that night, while the woman drank only beer. Eichler “seemed to become loud and amped up” after snorting the contents of a capsule he said contained steroids, one of the men said.
The men said the woman woke them up, crying and upset, when she came downstairs at about 5 a.m. and told them what happened.
Eichler agreed to be interviewed by police, according to the affidavit. He told investigators he does not know the woman and has no recollection of the events she alleged took place, the affidavit states.
Eichler was arraigned Thursday on felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault, as well as a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.
Having posted a $25,000 bail bond, Eichler is free pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 29, according to court records.
