Chicago’s Michel Goulet became the 17th NHL player to reach the 500-goal plateau, scoring on a breakaway with 37 seconds left in the first period Sunday against Calgary. Goulet has 500 goals in 951 career NHL games. He also scored 28 goals with Birmingham of the World Hockey Association in 1978-79, although those do not count in his overall total. ... New Jersey goaltender Chris Terreri has won seven straight games tying a club record set by Sean Burke. ... Hartford is 1-10-7 in its last 18 games. ... Canada was outshot 19-4 by the Unified Team on Sunday at the Olympics and fell behind 3-2 in the first period. Canada lost 5-4 despite 47 saves by Sean Burke. STREAKS

The New Jersey Devils tied a club record with their fifth straight victory, beating the New York Rangers 4-2 Sunday. The Devils are 14-4-1 in their last 19 games. New Jersey has had two other five game winning streaks, one in March, 1990 and another late in the 1987-88 season. SLAP SHOTS

In its four other Olympics, France was fifth twice, 14th once and 11th in 1988, when it lost its opener to Sweden 13-2. This time it was seeded 11th but surprised Canada in the opener, losing only 3-2, and beat Norway 4-2 Sunday to advance to the medal round for the first time. SLUMPS

Mario Lemieux, recently critical of the rough-housing in the NHL, and Al Conroy touched off a full-scale rumble that got all 10 skaters sent off the ice with 16 seconds left in overtime Sunday night as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia played to a 3-3 tie. There were eight roughing penalties, along with the 10 misconducts, called in the late brawl. There were a total of 47 penalties for 217 minutes assessed in the game. STARS Sunday

Peter Veselovsky scored with 3:17 left and Ladislav Lubina connected with 2:42 to go as Czechoslovakia beat Switzerland 4-2 Sunday. Veselovsky’s game- winner came on a 30-foot shot from the slot that skidded along the ice. STATUS

Goaltender Grant Fuhr, injured last Wednesday in a game against Detroit, skated Saturday but doesn’t know how long before he can return. The Maple Leafs say he will be out 10 days. SPEAKING

1981-Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Oilers to a 9-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Gretzky tied an NHL record by scoring four goals in the final period.

On the same night, the Hartford Whalers officially retired Gordie Howe’s uniform No. 9, becoming the first player ever to have his number retired by two teams. Detroit originally retired his jersey in 1972.

1991-Grant Fuhr of Edmonton shut out the New Jersey Devils 4-0 in his return from a 60-game drug suspension.
