Officials: Mother charged in drunken wreck that killed child
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina woman is accused of driving under the influence and crashing, killing her 9-year-old daughter.
The Sun News reports 31-year-old Catilia Chestnut was charged Monday with DUI resulting in death. South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers say Chestnut was driving near Georgetown on Sunday when her car went off road.
Troopers say Camari Chestnut wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The Horry County Coroner’s Office said Monday that Camari died of multiple trauma.
The state highway patrol is investigating. Authorities have not released Chestnut’s blood alcohol level. She is being held at a detention center, and it’s unclear if she has a lawyer.
