Landowner arrested for allegedly killing cows over dispute

August 29, 2018

GILROY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California have arrested a man who allegedly shot to death and buried 11 cows earlier this summer amid a dispute with their owners.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arrested 54-year-old Marc Belluomini, of Fremont, on 11 counts of animal cruelty and other charges.

The office said Tuesday Belluomini had an agreement to allow two ranchers to let their cattle graze on his land near Gilroy but that a dispute prompted them to remove the animals from the land.

The Mercury News reports that while removing their livestock in June, the cattle ranchers spotted cattle remains sticking out of the ground and called authorities.

Belluomini didn’t immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment.
