BREAKING: Herd QB Thomson to start vs. MT
HUNTINGTON – The anticipated debut of Marshall quarterback Alex Thomson will come in a starting role on Friday against Middle Tennessee.
Thomson’s first action with the Thundering Herd comes in place of quarterback Isaiah Green, who will not play after being injured late in last week’s 20-17 win over Western Kentucky.
The 6-foot-5, 233-pound junior from Keyport, N.J. was expected to be Marshall’s starter to begin the 2018 season after coming to Huntington as a graduate transfer from Wagner College.
Thomson came to Marshall with several professional analysts listing him as a 2019 NFL Draft prospect.
However, Thomson continued to have nagging shoulder issues during preseason camp – injuries that knocked him out of the 2017 season at Wagner – and he missed two weeks of camp.
Thomson will play in his first game since Sept. 9, 2017 when he was injured in a 31-6 loss to St. Francis while at Wagner.
During preseason, Green solidified himself as the No. 1 quarterback in the scheme of new offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey and never looked back.
Green started the first four games of the season, throwing for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions.
The nature and timetable for Green’s injury was not released by Marshall.
