Porto wins 5-1 at Gil Vicente to close on Benfica

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Porto rolled to a 5-1 win at 10-man Gil Vicente on Saturday to reduce the overnight gap with Portuguese league leader Benfica.

Porto pulled to within three points of Benfica before the defending champion visits Penafiel on Sunday.

Casemiro scored from Jackson Martinez’s pass in the 36th minute to set Porto on its way before Gil Vicente’s Jander was sent off with his second booking two minutes later.

Bruno Martins Indi, Yacine Brahimi, Oliver Torres and Martinez all scored in the second half, while Vitor Goncalves got the hosts’ consolation goal.

Porto lost Alex Sandro in the 90th to a second booking.

Also, Sporting Lisbon routed visiting Estoril 3-0 on two goals by Adrien Silva and a third by Islam Slimani.

Sporting’s Nani was sent off with two bookings late.
