Two people arrested on drug, child abuse charges
CHADRON — Two people face charges of child abuse as a result of a Chadron investigation.
Margaret E. Buehner, 34, of Colorado, and Kyrisha R. Wait, 27, of Chadron, were arrested on Friday, Oct. 5, on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony, and child abuse, a Class IIIA felony.
Police began an investigation after a woman had called 911 shortly after midnight, asking for directions to the Chadron Community Hospital because she had a male subject who was unresponsive and had overdosed on something, according to information released by the Chadron Police Department.
Officers began investigating the incident by talking with witnesses and applied for and received a search warrant for a Chadron residence. During the service of the search warrant, officers located several suspected controlled substances to include heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia used to ingest the drugs including glass pipes and hypodermic syringes/needles.
According to a search warrant affidavit, a man was taken to the hospital and treated, having been dropped off at the hospital and carried into the door by nursing staff. Wait was identified as the man’s girlfriend and had a child, who a witness identified as having been in the home.
Both women were arrested and have been jailed at the Chadron jail.
The case is still under investigation.
