GRACELAND DEED WILL BE PART OF ELVIS PRESLEY AUCTION
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The deed to Graceland is up for auction. The sale contract signed by Elvis Presley and his mother and father is expected to sell for an estimated $50,000 to $100,000 at a memorabilia auction at Graceland in Memphis on Jan. 8, Presley’s birthday. That’s just for the deed, of course, not for the property. The keys for Presley’s home in Palm Springs, California, are expected to sell for as much as $4,000. A program from Presley’s high school talent show that lists him as a guitar act and misspells his name as “P-R-E-S-T-L-Y” is expected to sell for as much as $3,000. Other items for sale are Presley’s Mobil gas card, his Bible and his 7th degree black belt card that includes his signature and fingerprints. The items are all from third-party collectors, not Graceland archives.
BRETT DENNEN IS INTROSPECTIVE FOR SONGS, EXTROVERTED FOR CONCERTS
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Brett Dennen usually doesn’t write songs on tour because that’s when he needs to be an extrovert. Dennen says he has to tap into his performer side while on tour, and that means energy and endorphins. To write songs, Dennen says he has to be more introspective. He says he sometimes will have a moment where he can noodle with a guitar while he watches TV with the sound down, but he doesn’t have many quite moments on the road. Dennen will do a tour of Western ski towns beginning Jan. 18 in Lake Tahoe, California.

BANK SEEKS POSSESSION OF HOME OWNED BY ALL THAT REMAINS GUITARIST
HARTFORD, Ct. (AP) — A bank is trying to repossess the home where late guitarist Oli Herbert of All That Remains lived. The Hartford Courant reports the Freedom Mortgage Corporation won a default motion against Herbert in September. The bank said Herbert owed $132,000 on the home in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Herbert and his wife, Elizabeth, bought it in 2013 for $135,000, according to town records. Last week, attorneys for the mortgage company asked a judge to give the bank immediate possession of the home. Elizabeth Herbert still lives there. She could not be reached for comment. Oli Herbert was found dead in October, face down in a shallow pond. Authorities are still investigating his death.

“HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE” UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR MONTANA STATE SONG
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana is considering a bill that would declare “Hippy Hippy Shake” its official rock and roll song. Democratic Representative Jacob Bachmeier introduced a bill that begins, “WHEREAS, Montanans shake it to the left and shake it to the right and do everything with all of their might.” The song was written by Chan Romero when he was a 17-year-old student at Billings Senior High School in 1959. Romero tells the Great Falls Tribune he’d be proud to have his song honored this way. Montana also has a state song, a state ballad and a state lullaby.

ARETHA FRANKLIN TRIBUTE SPECIAL IN THE WORKS
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Celine Dion, John Legend, Alessia Cara (ah-LES’-ee-ah KAR’-ah) and Common will pay tribute to the music of Aretha Franklin for an upcoming CBS special. The program, called “Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul,” also will feature Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Patti Labelle, BeBe Winans, SZA (SIH’-zah), Brandi Carlile and Janelle Monae, among others. Tyler Perry will host. The concert will tape in Los Angeles on Jan. 13. It will air sometime in 2019.
DETROIT (AP) — An attorney representing the estate of the late Queen of Soul says at least $3 million in back taxes have been paid to the IRS since Aretha Franklin’s death this summer in her Detroit apartment.
David Bennett tells The Associated Press Thursday that Franklin’s estate is being audited by the IRS, which he says filed a claim this month in a county probate court north of Detroit.
TMZ reported earlier Thursday that legal documents it obtained showed the IRS claimed Franklin owes more than $6.3 million in back taxes from 2012 to 2018 and $1.5 million in penalties.
Bennett says all of Franklin’s returns have been filed. He adds that the IRS is questioning the filed returns and that Franklin’s estate is disputing what the IRS claims “was income.”
Franklin died of pancreatic cancer in August. She was 76.
CHRIS BROWN-ANIMAL CHARGES
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Brown has been charged with monkey-related misdemeanors.
The Los Angeles city attorney’s office confirms Thursday that the 29-year-old singer was charged last week with two counts stemming from his possession of a pet capuchin monkey without a permit.
Brown posted a picture to his 44 million Instagram followers in January showing his 3-year-old daughter, Royalty, cuddling with the monkey, named Fiji.
California fish and wildlife agents took the monkey away soon after.
Brown is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 6. An after-hours email seeking comment from his attorney Mark Geragos was not immediately returned.
Brown has been in repeated legal trouble since pleading guilty to the felony assault in 2009 of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. He completed his probation in that case in 2015.
