Lady Aces drop pair of Big Eight games

May 2, 2019

MOUNT CARMEL -- It was a rough couple of days for Mount Carmel’s softball team, as the Lady Aces were pitted against a pair of quality Big Eight opponents in Jasper and Boonville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Lady Aces were routed in both road games, first losing to Jasper 14-4 on Tuesday and then falling to Boonville 11-1 on Wednesday.

Against Jasper (5-6) the Lady Aces had more success at the plate, but the Wildcats were just more effective on that day.

Sophomore Faith Fuller took the mound and pitched five innings, allowing 14 runs, 10 earned on 16 hits while fanning one batter.

The Lady Aces bats were led by Fuller’s 1-for-2 line with an RBI and a run scored, as well as freshman Mackenzie Sisson’s 1-for-2 day with a pair of RBIs.

Just a day later the Lady Aces battled another conference foe, this time it was the Pioneers (11-2). Freshman Kami Pearson was on the mound and pitched five inning. Similarly to Fuller, Pearson had a rough day against a potent offense. The Pioneers scored 11 runs off of Pearson, 10 earned on 10 hits while fanning three batters.

Leading the Mount Carmel bats, freshman Maleah Armstrong with her 2-for-2 day with a triple and an RBI and Sisson scoring the lone run.

Mount Carmel (8-9) will try to get back on track with another pair of Big Eight foes, beginning with a road matchup Mount Vernon (Ind). on May 6 at 5 p.m. and a home game against Washington on Tuesday (May 7) at 5 p.m. The Lady Aces were scheduled to face Flora on Thursday (May 2), but that has since been cancelled due to the rainfall and thunderstorms.
