Undated (AP) _ Uptown Swell, the 2-1 favorite, came from far back to capture a 4 1/2 -length victory in the Noble Dancer purse at Hialeah Race Course Tuesday.

Longshot Dark Flood set the pace from the start and Uptown Swell was fifth midway down the backstretch. Gallant Helio took the lead turning for home as Uptown Swell rallied on the extreme outside. The favorite snatched the lead nearing the eighth pole and widened his lead the rest of the way.

Uptown Swell, a 5-year-old, Florida-bred son of Master Derby, is owned by Virginia Kraft Payson. Tuesday’s was his first win of 11 starts this year, but his lifetime earnings are now $706,729 from 37 starts.

The winner, ridden by Walter Guerra, ran the 1 1/8 -mile course in 1:48 1-5 and paid $6.60, $4.80 and $3.20. Dr. Dan Eyes paid $4.40 and $3.40 and third- place finisher Gallant Helio paid $6.40 to show.


Such Much supplied the nation’s leading jockey Kent Desormeaux with his 424th victory on the year in the featured $15,000 Lady Pitt Purse at Laurel Race Course.

The 2-1 favorite in a field of eight fillies and mares led all the way to complete 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:18 2-5.

Toty Lopez rallied to finish eight lengths back in second and Swift Appeal was another 1 1/4 lengths behind in third.

Such Much paid $6.80, $3.80 and $2.60. Toty Lopez returned $3.80 and $2.80, while Swift Appeal was worth $5.80 to show.
