Firefighters battle blaze in Blackfoot

Maple Street Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Blackfoot started on fire early Tuesday, according to emergency scanner traffic.

BLACKFOOT -- A fire police reported early Tuesday morning has caused extensive damage to Maple Street Laundry & Dry Cleaning, 66 N. Maple St., said Blackfoot Fire Chief Kevin Gray.

Police alerted the fire department at 12:30 a.m., after witnessing smoke billowing through the roof of the laundromat. Gray doubts the roughly 30- by 40-foot building can be salvaged.

“It’s pretty serious -- a lot of damage,” Gray said.

Gray said nobody was injured. He said firefighters spent four hours battling the fire. He said the cause is unknown and is under investigation.
