Discover Aiken: Historic Whitney Field home of polo in Aiken
Whitney Field is one of the oldest venues for polo in this country.
The first game was held at the site, which is on Mead Avenue, in 1882.
Approximately 10,000 spectators enjoyed the contest, and the festivities included a dress parade featuring the Aiken Palmetto Rifles.
Today, Whitney Field is the home of the Aiken Polo Club, which has both spring and fall seasons.
Fans can watch the action from underneath a pavilion built in 2014 or from field-side parking spaces.
