No. 11 Virginia 82, Wake Forest 78

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) _ Heather Burge had 20 points and 10 rebounds as No. 11 Virginia downed Wake Forest 82-78 Wednesday night.

Dena Evans added 15 points and Heidi Burge 14 for the Cavaliers (13-4, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Virginia led 44-38 at halftime but Wake Forest (12-5, 3-4) took the lead at 55-54 when Sabrina Slone hit a 3-pointer with 14:19 left.

Wake Forest led 73-70 with 5:18 remaining on a 3-pointer by Slone, but Virginia reserve Chris Lesoravage tied the game with a free throw and Heather Burge connected on two layups and a 5-foot jumper in the last four minutes as the Cavaliers took a six-point lead.

A B.J. Thames 3-pointer pulled the Demon Deacons within 81-78 with 38 seconds left. A 3-point shot by Gretchen Hollifield rimmed out and Evans converted a free throw to seal the Virginia victory.

Tracy Connor led Wake Forest with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Nicole Levesque had 18 points.
