Congress Iraq Rebuilding
The $87 billion measure for Iraq and Afghanistan written by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has the same $20.3 billion for rebuilding Iraq that President Bush proposed.
Both men proposed dividing up the rebuilding money the same way:
_$5.7 billion to rebuild the electricity system.
_$5.1 billion for security, including funds for the Army, police and courts.
_$3.7 billion for public works.
_$2.1 billion for the petroleum industry facilities.
_$875 million for water systems.
_$835 million for transportation and telecommunications.
_$470 million for housing.
_$850 million for health.
_$353 million for spurring private investment.
_$300 million for refugees and development of democracy.
