School district: Principal accused of sexual assault resigns
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A principal accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside the high school where he worked has resigned.
WREG-TV reports Shelby County Schools said Wednesday that Otis Clayton stepped down from his position at Manassas High School on Aug. 24.
Documents obtained by the news outlet state the woman said Clayton “unwillingly” took her to the school July 24 to talk about a potential job. She says he assaulted her in his office.
The woman reported the incident to Memphis police July 26. Clayton was placed on administrative leave July 29.
Memphis police presented the case to the district attorney general’s office. Memphis police spokeswoman Lt. Karen Rudolph says authorities determined no criminal charges would be filed at this point.
Clayton told school officials he had sex with the woman but denied assaulting her.
