Springfield man denies killing neighbor’s Chihuahua
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man charged with killing a neighbor’s Chihuahua puppy after it wandered into his yard has pleaded not guilty.
Freddie Guy was allowed to remain free on $500 bail at his arraignment Thursday on animal cruelty charges.
Prosecutors requested $10,000 bail, but the 66-year-old Guy’s lawyer argued that his client had no criminal record and was not a flight risk.
Witnesses told police they saw Guy on Tuesday morning swinging a baseball bat at the dog. A local animal hospital says the dog was shot with a BB gun.
Guy was not at home when police arrived, but the dog’s body remained on his lawn. He was arrested later Tuesday.
The 6-month-old dog, Bruno, belonged to a family who lived on a nearby street.
