Baby Removed From Shooting Victim Dies

March 24, 1996

ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A girl delivered by Caesarean section last month, after her teen-age mother was fatally shot on a school bus, died Saturday.

Doctors said Diamond Taylor, who weighed 3 pounds when she was born 2 1/2 months early, died from complications of prematurity. She was 24 days old.

Kyunia Taylor, a freshman at Beaumont High School, had just sat down on the bus Feb. 29 when a teen-age gunman stuck his head inside the door and asked, ``Is this the bus to Beaumont?″

When told that it was, he pulled a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband and shot the driver, 60-year-old Richard Lanemann, police said. Then he fired several shots at Taylor, who was seated behind Lanemann.

Two of the bullets struck Taylor in the chest. She was pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Three bullets struck Lanemann; he was not seriously injured.

The shootings are under investigation. Police arrested two suspects but later released them.
