St. Vrain Greenway to Close Through Sandstone Ranch for Oil and Gas Well Plugging and Abandonment
The St. Vrain Greenway trail through Sandstone Ranch in east Longmont will close to the public Wednesday until Oct. 12. while an oil and gas well near the trail is plugged and abandoned.
The closure will be from the County Line Trailhead to the Sandstone Ranch Visitor’s Center on either side of the St. Vrain River.
Signs will be posted notifying users of the closure, and orange safety fences will barricade the trail on either side of the river.
The oil and gas well being plugged is owned by TOP Operating, one of the two oil and gas companies, along with Cub Creek Energy, that the city came to a $3 million agreement with earlier this year to no longer drill from the surface of Longmont.
Large rigging equipment will be on the well site near the St. Vrain Greenway during the plugging and abandonment process.
Longmont trail users can view current trail sections open across the city as well as trail closures at LongmontColorado.gov/trail-status .
