Herd volleyball shuts out Nicholls State 3-0
The Herald-Dispatch BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Marshall University blanked Nicholls State 3-0 in a Friday match of a women’s volleyball tournament hosted by Bowling Green.
The Thundering Herd defeated the Colonels from the South land Conference, 25-11, 26-24, 25-20.
Ciara Debell and Lauren Mattmuller led Marshall with 16 and 10 kills respectively. Amber Weber had 25 digs. Gabrielle Coulter’s double-double match inclueded 27 assists and 12 digs.
Heidi Carpenter’s nine kills led Nicholls State (2-10). Emily Venable had 16 digs.
Marshall improved its record to 6-7 with a 2 p.m. Saturday match coming up against IUPUI.
HUNTINGTON — Florida Atlantic kicked off the Conference USA women’s soccer season Friday with a 2-1 defeat of Marshall at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
FAU (3-6-0, 1-0-0) used a Sammy Vitols score and an own goal to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Marah Abu-Tayeh put the Thundering Herd (2-4-1, 0-1-0) on the board with a second-half goal at 48:37 on an assist from her sister, Farah Abu-Tayeh.
